Christie Balcomb BVSc, DACVIM-LA
Senior Lecturer in Production Animal Health
School of Veterinary ScienceChristie Balcomb completed her veterinary degree at Massey University in 2011. She then completed an internship in Ruminant Health and Reproduction at North Carolina State University, and a 3-year residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine with a focus in Livestock Medicine at University of California Davis, becoming a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (LAIM) in 2016. Research topics of interest include pharmacology of florfenicol in sheep, pharmacology of famotidine in cattle, and small ruminant medicine and surgery. She then worked in mixed private practice in Maui, Hawaii from 2016-2021 before returning to teach in the Farm Services Department of Massey University in May 2021. She completed a Fellowship in Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in 2022 and currently coordinates Cattle health, production and population medicine (227.413), and contributes to pre-clinical and clinical courses in the School of Veterinary Science. She contributes to post-graduate education through roles as a tutor for the Massey Masters in Veterinary Medicine and New Zealand Veterinary Association.
