Teacher Perspectives on the Development of Business English Programmes in the Thai Tertiary Context
Read article at Massey Research Online:
In the Thai tertiary context today, Business English has emerged as an important aspect of English for Specific Purposes. It is currently provided as an undergraduate programme in up to one third of all universities. However, to date, relatively little is known about how Business English programmes have been developed. Through the perspectives of Thai tertiary teachers, Ms Amatayakul explored the growth of Business English programmes in the past and present, and investigated possible future trajectories. She found that programme development has been influenced by a combination of internal and external factors and that future Business English programmes might continue to face both internal and external challenges. Overall, her research has provided an in-depth understanding of the development of Business English programmes in Thailand and has emphasised an urgent need for teacher professional development in this field.
