Ms Soysa developed and empirically tested a performance measurement system for nonprofit healthcare organisations, using the balanced scorecard as the primary theoretical underpinning. Using a mixed methods research platform, she collected both qualitative and quantitative data from Australasian nonprofit healthcare organisations to improve the balanced scorecard. In particular, Ms Soysa provided better measurement definitions for the performance dimensions of the balanced scorecard and demonstrated how the scorecard should be augmented to better explain and predict the performance of nonprofit organisations. In addition, her research produced a scoring system and practical guidelines for performance improvement, including how the scoring system can be used in practice.
