We're a global university that has agreements with over 200 institutions worldwide, covering a variety of relationships, from collaborative research to teaching, and staff and student exchanges.

Our doctoral students have come from over 25 different countries and a diversity of educational and cultural backgrounds. Many have gone on to gain leading academic positions at universities around the world.

Our longstanding relationship with Chinese universities

Massey University has a longstanding and strong relationship with China. We were the first New Zealand university to:

  • be visited by the president of a Chinese university
  • sign a memorandum of understanding with a Chinese university
  • sign a "tripartite" partnership with leading Chinese universities, including Peking University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

We have close to 1800 students from China and about 70 active agreements and collaborations with Chinese university and government agency partners.

Madame Peng Liyuan, First Lady to the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Literature from Massey University in recognition of Madame Peng’s international contributions to the performing arts and health and education programmes.

A member of the Global Food Safety Partnership

The World Bank has chosen Massey University to help lead the Global Food Safety Partnership. This is a public-private partnership aimed at improving international food safety capacity. Massey is a member of the Global Alliance on Food Security Research, under which six leading agrifood universities and research institutions have joined forces to find ways to increase world food production in a sustainable manner.
