Posttraumatic Growth in People Living With HIV
HIV is no longer necessarily terminal but remains a chronic and stigmatising illness. However, some people living with HIV may experience positive psychological changes or growth through processing HIV diagnosis and associated issues relating to stigmatised health conditions. Ms Chi conducted a quantitative study and a qualitative study to investigate the processes of growth. The findings supported current growth theories in that people perceived growth after cognitive processing of event-related information and their violated core beliefs and goals. Her findings also provided a more in-depth picture of cognitive processing and growth in people with HIV and highlighted the importance of personal and social contexts in growth processes and implications.
